In 2019, Casey McQuiston's Red, White & Royal Blue was the viral novel of the summer, an enemies-to-lovers romance between the son of the president of the United States and the prince of Wales. Now, it is the queer rom-com of this summer — and the movie adaptation will offer plenty to buzz about again. (It's rated R!)

Red, White & Royal Blue centers on first son Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez) and Britain's Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), whose long-simmering feud threatens to ignite an international incident. When the two are forced to fake a public "truce," they soon find themselves swept up in a steamy foreign affair. Oscar nominee Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction) plays the first woman commander-in-chief.

The movie marks the directorial debut of Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López, who landed on A.frame's Pride Guide to LGBTQ+ artists on the rise in 2023. "I never imagined I'd read a book with a queer Latine character at the center — a character who is smart, and passionate, and flawed, and hopeful," López has said. "I think having this book in my life when I was younger might have made it a little easier. I knew immediately that I wanted to bring it to the screen."

Red, White & Royal Blue will be available to stream on Prime Video on Aug. 11. Watch the trailer below.
