This isn't your parents' foreign policy: The upcoming movie adaptation of Red, White & Royal Blue has found its leading men in Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine, Amazon Studios announced.
Based on Casey McQuiston's bestselling novel, the rom-com tells the story of First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz (Perez) and his sworn nemesis, Prince Henry (Galitzine). After a messy altercation at a state dinner, Alex and Henry are forced to fake a friendship that unexpectedly becomes something more, giving a whole new meaning to international relations.
Perez broke out in Netflix's The Kissing Booth franchise and recently starred on the HBO Max comedy, Minx. Galitzine, meanwhile, is best known for playing another royal role: Prince Robert in the Camila Cabello-starrer, Cinderella.
"Meeting with and auditioning literally hundreds of actors over these past several months has been a painstaking labor of love that has brought us this diverse and extraordinary cast, led so fantastically by Nick and Taylor," said director Matthew López. "I cannot wait for the fans of the book (and indeed for the world) to find out how remarkably gifted and perfect these two actors are for bringing Henry and Alex to life."
Following the initial announcement, the studio revealed that Oscar nominee Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction) will co-star as President Ellen Claremont, Alex's mom and the first female leader of the free world whose reelection campaign hinges on Alex cleaning up his tabloid reputation.
"I am overjoyed that Uma will be joining us to play President Claremont," López said. "Her intelligence, warmth, and humor are a perfect match for Casey’s iconic character. I cannot wait to be on our Oval Office set with her.”
The cast also includes Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi and Stephen Fry, along with Rachel Hilson (Love, Victor), Ellie Bamber (Disney+'s upcoming Willow), Aneesh Sheth (Jessica Jones), Polo Morin, Ahmed Elhaj and Akshay Khanna. Tony Award winner López (The Inheritance) makes his feature debut from a script he also adapted, with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter producing.
