Pivoting from intergalactic superheroics in Marvel's Eternals and the Stepfordian psychological thriller Don't Worry Darling to a '50s-set queer period romance, Harry Styles, the actor, is proving himself the versatile sort. Now, Amazon Studios has released the trailer for the latter, the forbidden love story My Policeman.
Styles stars as the eponymous police officer, Tom Burgess, who falls in love and eventually marries a schoolteacher, Marion (Emma Corrin). But when the couple befriends museum curator Patrick (David Dawson), Tom and Patrick soon embark on a secret affair in a time when being gay was a crime.
My Policeman unfolds over two timelines, jumping forward to the 1990s when Patrick reenters Tom and Marion's life (played in their older years by Rupert Everett, Linus Roache and Gina McKee, respectively). As with all great romances, the past never stays in the past.
Based on Bethan Roberts' 2012 novel of the same name, the movie comes courtesy of director Michael Grandage from a script by Oscar-nominated scribe Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia), and is produced by husbands Greg Berlanti and Robbie Rogers, with Sarah Schechter, Cora Palfrey and Philip Herd.
My Policeman premieres during the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival before opening in theaters Oct. 21 and streaming on Amazon Prime Video on Nov. 4. Watch the trailer below.
