It takes two for Folie à Deux, and Lady Gaga has taken to social media to confirm that she will be starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming Joker sequel. Director Todd Phillips previously revealed that a follow-up was in the works, titled Joker: Folie à Deux, teasing the "madness for two" to come.

Gaga's announcement comes in the form of a teaser video, in which silhouettes of Phoenix's Arthur Fleck and Gaga's character dance together to "Cheek to Cheek" (a song Gaga covered with Tony Bennett in her career as a pop star). The clip also reveals the movie's release date: Joker: Folie à Deux is set to open in theaters on Oct. 4, 2024.

While it has yet to be officially confirmed, the teaser gives credence to reports that Gaga will play a new take on Harley Quinn, the one-time Arkham Asylum psychiatrist who falls for Joker and turns to a life of crime. The role would be befitting of the film's title: Folie à deux, also known as Shared Psychotic Disorder, is a rare psychiatric syndrome in which delusions are shared by two or more people.

The video also appears to confirm that Joker 2 will, indeed, be a musical.

Joker premiered in 2019 and became the most Oscar-nominated comic book movie of all time, earning 11 total nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay (for Phillips and Scott Silver, who is also penning the sequel). The movie ultimately won two: Best Original Score for Hildur Guðnadóttir and Best Actor for Phoenix.

Gaga herself is an Oscar winner for Best Original Song for A Star Is Born, a film that also earned her a Best Actress nomination. Joker: Folie à Deux will mark her return to the big screen following last year's House of Gucci.
