Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson Reunite in 'The Banshees of Inisherin' Trailer

"You didn't do anything to me. I just don't like you no more."

"But you liked me yesterday."

Breaking up is never easy, and in The Banshees of Inisherin, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are together again playing a pair of longtime friends whose bond is suddenly severed, leaving one of them baffled and attempting to repair their friendship as the other commits to moving on.

The film also marks a reunion between Farrell and Gleeson and their In Bruges writer and director Martin McDonagh. Set on the fictional Irish island of Inisherin during the Irish Civil War of 1923, Banshees is full of McDonagh's signature black comedy, on display in the trailer as Pádraic (Farrell) tries to uncover what he did to piss off best friend Colm (Gleeson).

Banshees also stars Barry Keoghan, Kerry Condon, Pat Shortt, Gary Lydon, and Sheila Flitton as Inisherin locals bewildered by the whole ordeal. McDonagh will also serve as a producer on the film, alongside Peter Czernin and Graham Broadbent.

The film marks McDonagh's first feature film since 2017's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which received seven Oscars nominations and two. (Frances McDormand won Best Actress and Sam Rockwell won Best Supporting Actor.) McDonagh himself won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film in 2004 with Six Shooter.

The Banshees of Inisherin is set to premiere during this September's Venice International Film Festival ahead of its release in theaters on October 21. Watch the trailer below.
