Elvis Presley is getting the biopic treatment, Baz Luhrmann-style. The Oscar-nominated director has unveiled the first trailer for Elvis, teasing his trademark stylish spin on the life and times of the King of Rock and Roll, and showcasing star Austin Butler's transformation into Presley.
Tom Hanks co-stars as Colonel Tom Parker, the manager who discovered an unknown Presley, with Luke Bracey playing Jerry Schilling, Presley's manager and early member of the so-called Memphis Mafia. Relative newcomer Olivia DeJonge, meanwhile, is Priscilla, Presley's wife and right-hand woman when it comes to taking care of business.
Considering the circles Elvis ran in, the biopic also sees him crossing paths with a number of music icons: GRAMMY nominee Yola appears as Sister Rosetta Tharpe ("the Godmother of Rock 'n Roll"), Kodi Smit-McPhee as Jimmie Rodgers ("the Father of Country Music"), Kelvin Harrison Jr. as blues legend B.B. King, David Wenham as country singer Hank Snow, and Alton Mason as Little Richard.
Luhrmann directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with frequent collaborator Craig Pearce (Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge! and The Great Gatsby), Sam Bromell (The Get Down) and Jeremy Doner (The Killing).
Elvis rocks into theaters on June 24.
