On a recent Saturday night, just after 8 p.m., cars began flooding into the parking lot of the Utah State Fairpark in Salt Lake City. The sun set and the screen lit up with the opening credits of The Queen, Frank Simon’s 1968 documentary about the Miss All-America Camp Beauty Pageant. Photographer Nate Christenson dropped by the sold-out showing to capture the spirit of moviegoing in the COVID-19 era. The one-night-only event was put on by the Utah Film Center, the 2020 recipient of an Academy FilmWatch grant. It's part of the Damn These Heels Queer Film Festival, which is in its 17th year thanks in part to supporters like the Academy.
