July 7 — otherwise known as 7/7 — is sure to be a lucky day, but the guardians of the Land of Luck probably already know that. Which may be why Apple TV+ chose today to release the trailer for Luck, their newest animated movie and the first from their multiple-movie deal with Skydance Animation.
The trailer introduces Sam Greenfield (voiced by Eva Noblezada), "the unluckiest person in the world," who stumbles upon a lucky penny and sees her fortunes change. But when she loses it, Sam will do anything to get it back — even follow a black cat named Bob (Simon Pegg) to the Land of Luck, where magical creatures are tasked with overseeing good and bad luck the world over.
Also lending their voices to Luck are two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda (Klute and Coming Home), who voices a bad luck-sniffing dragon, and Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost). They're joined by Flula Borg, Lil Rel Howery, Colin O'Donoghue, John Ratzenberger and Adelynn Spoon.
Apple Original Films' animation department is not without its own streak of good luck, having earned a nomination for Best Animated Feature with its 2020 film, Wolfwalkers. Luck, meanwhile, hails from director Peggy Holmes, who previously helmed Disney films such as The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning and Secret of the Wings.
Luck streams on Apple TV+ on August 5. Watch the full trailer below.
